The Adult/Adolescent Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner Training is for registered nurses, advanced practice providers and physicians who provide care for patients who have experienced sexual assault. This training is the first step in becoming an Adult/Adolescent Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE) as defined by the International Association of Forensic Nurses (IAFN) or an Adult/Adolescent Sexual Assault Forensic Examiner (SAFE) as defined by the Illinois Sexual Assault Survivors Emergency Treatment Act. The goal is to, "help the sexual assault nurse examiner meet the medical forensic needs of those who have been affected by sexual violence including individual patients, families, communities and systems (IAFN Educational Guidelines).” Applicants must have a license in good standing, submit a current resume, complete the pre-coursework prior to the assigned date, have an identified mentor and be available for the in-person training.
